There aren’t too many other suburbs on the Gold Coast that have quite as good of a position as Pacific Pines! Well connected with the inner Gold Coast suburbs via Smith Street, travelling into Southport takes less than 15 minutes. With the recent M1 upgrades complete, Brisbane is now only a 45-minute drive away and southern M1 upgrades are due to be finished very soon. When Pacific Pines was first being developed, there wasn’t much at all between there and Canungra, and it is home to over 30,000 people there alone.

With southerly highway upgrades close to completion as well, Byron Bay, the central New South Wales Coastline, and Sydney will all be much better connected

Infrastructure and Development

An extremely popular suburb on the already very popular Gold Coast, Pacific Pines is a great place to live. An extra 2000 new residents moved to the area between 2014-2016 (Census 2016, Australian Government), bringing the total population of Pacific Pines to 16,757 people. The original development by Stocklands was for 5000 residential lots to be developed on over 700 hectares. During this development, the first block of land in Pacific Pines sold for $54,000. 15 years later and the average land price was now 4.214 times as much, coming in at $236,000.

As the last of the original owners and buyers of the Stockland development list for sale or have already, we’re seeing another increase in the demand for homes in the area. This is always expected to happen when most developments eventually fill out. As this attention to the areas increases, new populations move in, and new small and medium businesses add to the area. In 2020, with some much complete development along the stretch of highway surrounding the northern end of the Gold Coast, there are plenty of businesses close by great for supporting work and demand.

We expect to see this speed in demand increase exponentially over the next few years. As more and more people shy away from the triangle of quickly built homes between Brisbane, there has been a clear shift of interest in the new wave of quickly developed, yet modern homes, to looking for slightly older built homes with more structural integrity. This could also be due to the impact that the rapid growth in the areas around Coomera to Yatala beginning to become severely overwhelmed in areas such as road infrastructure, public transport options, as well as local small/medium businesses and employment. Of course, eventually, these problems will be dealt with, and there are already many plans made public for massive civil projects in those areas.

Many Gold Coasters in the last 20 years, myself included, have experienced living in suburbs undertaking massive civil upgrades and construction. These times do have their growing pains, such as increased congestion due to roadworks, also having to drive further for most services, business, and employment. It seems after so many years of consistent rapid development is creating a major shift in where people want to live short term over the next 5-10 years. With tenants, more so than buyers, looking towards homes that offer convenience and livability, features such as modern appliances, recreation spaces, outdoor living and garden space are all becoming heavily sought after. Yet to top out all interests for buyers and tenants in the coming years, the famous real estate words, location, location, location. Gold Coast locals living in the urban sprawl are absolutely looking for the most convenience in terms of congestion, local business, employment in the area, and lifestyle.

Places of Interest

Pacific Pines was developed early in the life of the Gold Coast due to the astonishing beauty in the local scenery. Named after the pine trees growing scattered throughout the area from earlier days gone by when the area was a large pine plantation, combined with the expansive views over the Pacific Ocean. Sitting in between the coastline and the hinterland, Pacific Pines is full of sloping hills which open up ventilation and great views to the area.

At the highest point in Pacific Pines, you’ll find the Lookout. A great viewing point to see the entire Gold Coast. One of the best things about this lookout is how great watching both sunrise and sunset is from here. Take a short walk in the morning up the hill to watch the sun breach the horizon across the Pacific Ocean. Or head there in the afternoon and look out west to see the light rays slowly empty from the hinterland valleys.

Parks and Playgrounds

There are several parks and recreation areas in the area. Over the years they have been maintained well and upgraded where needed. All of the areas see a great amount of use, especially in the afternoons. The attention to parks and features in the area has nurtured a wonderfully family-friendly suburb, with a great sense of culture and community feeling. You’ll find plenty of hidden gems in the area as you explore. To get you started, here are some of the most common places to visit in Pacific Pines.

Pacific Pines Central Park

The Central Park is a great place to get some exercise done. There are well maintained public facilities here such as barbeques, tables, a cricket pitch, pathways and lakes. This is a great spot to enjoy with the family after work. The community feel Pacific Pines really makes this park a great place to visit. You’ll always find a few friendly faces walking in the mornings along the park pathways.

The lake and playground are such a gem to families in the area, adding to the lovely lifestyle. Over the years due to the immense popularity of the park and playground, the facilities have seen multiple upgrades and it would now be recommended as one of the best playgrounds and places to take the kids on a weekend on the Gold Coast.

You’ll also come to find plenty of community-run events are based here, it really is the Central Park of Pacific Pines. Raising the community spirit and nurturing local friendships, this is another key point of master-planned suburbs creating better lifestyles.

Pacific Pines Skatepark

The Pacific Pines skatepark always has plenty of action each afternoon. It is a great place for the kids to burn off some energy in a positive way. The culture at the park is extremely friendly, there are great amenities with water, shade and seating. Plus there are lights that provide light to the park each night.

The great thing about living in Pacific Pines is the sense of community in the area. This skatepark, in particular, is one of my recommended places to go if you’re learning or need a little more room than others. Everyone at this park is always in a great polite mood and you’ll be happy to see your kids enjoying it alongside the older kids.

There are 3 schools in the area, as well as plenty of private schools within convenient driving distance across the Gold Coast.

Pacific Pines State Primary School

Pacific Pines State Primary was opened in 2002, with a catchment including Gaven, Pacific Pines, and parts of Nerang. The school’s motto is “Whatever it Takes”, a firm school for developing characterful children ready for the future.

Pacific Pines State High School

Established in 2000, Pacific Pines State High School was planned to be in the area from the start of master development. As the population early in the piece grew and grew, the need slowly became ready. Given that the development of the area only started in 1992, 8 years on and one of the largest new public schools on the Gold Coast was built. The reputation for the school over the years has gone in a number of directions, however, in recent years it seems to have pulled the average student onto a better path.

Park Lake State School

The newest school in the area to be opened, Park Lake State School, officially opened in 2008 due to the extreme development and population expanse in the area. Beginning its first year with just over 200 enrolments, Park Lake State School now expects to have over 1000 enrollments in 2020.

A range of clubs have started over the years, providing plenty of different opportunities to kick some action into your day. You’ll find the community living in Pacific Pines to be very active, with plenty of people out walking and running in the afternoons, and lots of activities in parks on weekends.

Founded in 2006, the Pacific Pines Football Club has a number of fields located on the corner of Pitcairn Way and Brockman Way. Pacific Pines Soccer Fields

The Pacific Pines Soccer field has 2 lengths and plenty of room. Located right next to the Pacific Pines skatepark, the park is in a highly convenient location which is while you’ll see plenty of people using the area each afternoon to walk the dog or get some exercise.

Pacific Pines Town Centre (Woolworths)

One of the main shopping centres in Pacific Pines, the Town Centre features a Woolworths, Ball Realty, Chemist, Bakery, Sushi, Coffee shop, pub/tavern, and even a drive-through bottle shop. Plenty of free undercover parking is also available.
